The IHP Behavioral Health Internship Program

In 2023, IHP launched its Behavioral Health Internship Program as part of our ongoing efforts to bolster the crucial work done by our member health centers. The goals of this program are to provide students with experientially rich and clinically-focused internships, to provide member health centers with the support needed to facilitate intern placement, and ultimately to provide the San Diego community with a more robust behavioral health workforce. 

Our program places Master of Social Work students from local universities at clinic sites within our network of our nine member health centers. In these outpatient settings student interns provide clinical behavioral health services directly to patients such as psychotherapy, group therapy, diagnostic assessments, care management, and crisis intervention. Interns can expect to have their perspectives broadened through being part of an interdisciplinary team, to deliver meaningful and important services to the local community, and to receive plenty of support and mentorship from IHP’s clinical supervisor. 

2026-2027 Internship Opportunities 

In February 2026, IHP will begin accepting applications for our 2026-2027 internship program. Applicants must be MSW students in the San Diego area.
